Past Pupils
Alan Johnson (1959)
I went to TGS from
Stamford Hill Junior Mixed (which was actually in South Tottenham), and spent my
years in TGS in the classes 1B, 1A, 2A, 3S, 4S. Remember how Dr Witt changed the
streaming system into Science, Arts, Technology and Economics streams from the
more traditional method?
My particular cronies were Michael Ward (who emigrated to Australia - we
exchanged letters for a while but through my fault eventually lost touch -
anyone have a contact with him?), Terry Kenny who left school to join the
MOD, and David Williams. We were all fanatical Goon Show fans, as were many
others. David's claim to fame was that he could drink the entire contents of a
Coca Cola bottle in under 3 seconds - from the bottle!
There were many others who were friends, and also I spent a couple of years in
the school ATC squadron - 1571 TGS (I still remember the unit number!)
I left the school in
1959 aged 16, after 'O' levels.
I spend around 30 years in the Timber Importing business culminating in having
my own importing business, which regretfully I had to close in 1993 thanks to
Maggie's slump. I am married with grown up daughters and grandchildren and I now
have a Computer Consulting business in Suffolk, England
