Past Pupils

Brian West (1973)

I was a pupil at the Somerset School 1968-73?. I'm now a comedy writer with my own little cult show on Channel 4 (Pets)

I played Henry VIII in "A Man For All Seasons" in 71. Then played the lead in "Reluctant Heroes" at the Upper School the following year. He was also in "The Pied Piper", which Richard Moss and and Frank Wagland wrote in 1972-73, and a production called "Mac The Sheepstealer". Frank Wagland also directed one of the first ever productions of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat" at the Lower School in around 1968.

None of us had heard of Andrew Lloyd Webber, and Tim Rice in those days (Thankfully) but we all dutifully wore towels on our heads and sang "Any Dream Will Do" for all we were worth.

I wasn't around during the fire. I left in 1973 after being in class 5S and joined the BBC as a junior clerk (I ended up as a producer/director there, many years later).
