Colin Hollingdale (1960)
Colin died in August 2002.
The following tributes have been written to his memory......
BRIAN ZIETMAN:- "Tony Burton has just informed me that Colin Hollingdale died suddenly just a few days ago. I remember him well as I was a first former when he was in the Fifth and then he went on to be school captain.
I contacted him by E - mail just 2 weeks ago when I noticed that he was a keen bridge player like me. He did not remember me of course but he answered modestly. I remembered that he was an outstanding swimmer and on reading the old "Somerset" magazines that Tony kindly sent me, I am reminded that he was outstanding in many fields both academic as well as sporting. It has somehow been a great shock to me that after 40 years of no contact whatsoever, he suddenly died just a few days after writing to me. I am sure many old boys will remember him as someone they admired."
If the members of his family read this note then I forward to them my sincere condolences in their loss.
JEFFREY HERFORD:-"I remember Colin Hollingdale as the first school captain I had at TGS. I joined the school in 1959 at the same time as he entered the Upper Sixth and was made head boy. I recall that he addressed all the "firsties" in the hall at a meeting a week or two before our first term began -- a sort of introduction to the school. I also remember him as an outstanding swimmer having epic contests with his only close rival over long distances (whose name was Beveridge I believe). Colin always pulled away in the penultimate length and went on to win.
It is always a shock to hear of the death of someone you remember from your schooldays."
