I was a member of the Bowles Cup team in
1948 and have a photo of our team with the Cup taken at the front of the
school with Mr Blake ,Laurie Cooper and Peter Calvert who was one of the
two school umpires. The Bowles Cup was the big match of the year against
Enfield Grammar played at the Enfield Cricket Club Ground and TGS had been
defeated for a number of years on the trot so our win was a big event and we
all received our colours.
I also have the 2nd XV Rugby team for 1947
-8 which contains some names mentioned.
If you are interested in these photos I
will find a way of getting them to you.
My memories go back to the V2 day when I
saw Burns without any flesh on his arm and later when we visited him at his
home. I was in the school at the time and we never heard a thing.
I played with the Old Boys cricket team
and have some photos of car rallies we ran with Dave Grainger.
Whilst I now live in Brisbane Australia I
keep in regular contact both by phone and visits with a Peter Liddamore
(his family owned Liddamore Motors in the High St) who I believe speaks
to Pete Calvert periodically.
