I started TGS in 1939 only in theory, as I was evacuated to Letchworth Grammar School in Hertfordshire as War broke out . I came back to TGS briefly in 1940, and was then evacuated to Ilfracombe Grammar School, Devon, returning to TGS in mid 1941 and I left in 1944
