Past Pupils

Frederick Bramley (1944)

I was a pupil at Tottenham Grammar School during the war years until 1944.

The first school was at the top of Somerset Road, near to Tottenham High Road, before being re-located to White Hart Lane in the 1930`s.

The school held various competing sessions for the Top house, but according to Mr Morley our sole aim in life was to beat the Tottenham County School at everything.

Football was not allowed but nevertheless some of us played for Bruce Grove United in the Tottenham marshes Sunday league.

The School also had a very strong Army Cadet unit with its own musicians.

School Prefects were allowed to hold a `Prefects Court` and mete out punishment. I can`t say it was a system that I approved of.

On a lighter note every boy in the school was in love with Ms. Fenner the Secretary.

We used to enter the grounds after dark (strictly forbidden) to search for shrapnel and base caps from the local anti-aircraft guns.

Another great rivalry was to see which form could collect the most conkers, as we were told that these were crushed and a certain drug extracted!!
