What is not recorded is how the news that the School had been hit spread and the scores of parents who went to the school to see if their son was still alive etc.
In my case our home had been flybombed in 1944 and I was evacuated for the umpteenth time to return in January 1945 to this 6 weeks before VE Day. My pencil case was inscribed by me 1.30 p.m. 15 March 1945.
One other bit of history, TGS was one of the first schools to send boys on to Public School. Two of my class eg, Keith Hindell went to Harrow then a great school ranked with Eton, and Robert Montgomery went to Mill Hill.
