Left school in 1969 to pursue a career in
journalism with the Barnet Press Group. I took up my apprenticeship when
another TGS old boy, Tony Slaughter, completed his junior service with the
company.
Lived and worked on various publications in
London, including the Tottenham Herald, until I got married in 1980.
I've just celebrated my 22nd wedding anniversary
and have two sons, Nick (18) and Callum (14).
I am now the group editor of eight weekly
newspapers, based in Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex.
My greatest moment at TGS was playing cricket
against Enfield Grammar School in the Bowles Cup and winning the trophy.
Now turned 50, I still enjoy village cricket and
play regularly in the same team as my two boys.
I have supported Barnet Football Club for nearly
40 years and still regularly attend matches, home and away.
I have not kept in touch with anyone from TGS
except for Martin Riley, who was in the same year as me. He now lives with his
wife and three children in Perth, West Australia, where he emigrated to in
1977.
I used to play in the same Sunday football team as
him and another Old Grammarian, Steve Scutchey.
I still call in sometimes to see Martin's parents,
who live in Bush Hill Park, when I'm in London.
Martin has visited me and I have been to see him
Down Under.
