Past Pupils
Pat Gray (1953)
I went from Lancasterian junior school to TGS in 1948 and left TGS in 1953. I lived just 300 yards from the school in Beaufoy road but was invariably a few minutes late in the mornings, a habit which, I'm ashamed to admit, has remained. I did my share of detention but I am proud to have been a TGS lad. The school gave me discipline and a sound start in life. My memories are still very clear on names of fellow pupils and teachers. I chose not to go into the upper school and left at 16 to enter my career and further my education by night school. I've recently completed 50 years as a printing ink chemist and still do part time consultancy. I am so sad when I pass Creighton Road and reflect on my wonderful memories. My mother was very sick through much of my time at TGS and in protest I used to excuse myself from Mr Ashby's R.I.class. However he never gave up on me and I still have his small signed gift. I don't attend church but I firmly believe he had an influence on my principles as a man. I lead an active life and enjoy many sports and have been able to contact several old friends through "friends reunited".
