Richard Moss

Richard Moss was born in Tottenham on January 31st 1924. He entered the teaching profession after the war.
He was headmaster at the Somerset Lower School, in Lordship Lane. A qualified FA football coach, and spent much time coaching schoolboys. He was formerly coach to Hertford Town FC, and also a scout for Tottenham Hotspur FC. It was Richard who saw a youngster playing for Ridgeway Rovers FC in Chingford, and introduced him to the `Spurs. Unfortunately for him (the youngster), Spurs felt that the young David Beckham didn't have what it needed to make a professional footballer and released him.
In 1972 he had a children's book `Black Patch` - a tale of high adventure. He also wrote another book `The Boy from far beyond`.
Richard and Frank (Wagland) composed a choral piece entitled "Please save St. Paul`s", which the school choir and orchestra performed at the Mansion House in front of Sir Peter Studd, who was at the time the Lord Mayor of London. this was to help launce the Lord mayors` appeal for £3 million to save the famous Cathedral. This particular cantata was later recorded.
Richard retired from Somerset Lower School in July 1981.
Following his retirement he taught at Northumberland Park School for a year
