Past Pupils

Rob Harris (1969)

I went to TGS in September 1963. I was the only pupil who went there from my primary School.
I was 1 of only 5 at my primary school who managed to pass the 11 plus.

I was in form 1A from 1963-1964. I then went into 2G, Then 3L 4T, and 5T. I stayed
stayed on in the lower sixth until Jan 69 then left.

I can remember a certain Mr Wiggins I think he taught English, he was very good at throwing things at wayward pupils and drilling one's head and also twisting your sideburns. I can also remember Friday morning Prefects assembly It seemed that a certain Head Boy was determined to prove that he could get the school to sing. So every Friday morning we would have the same Hymn - All Things Bright and Beautiful - where everybody would shout at the top of their voices the first word of the chorus ALL!

When I joined TGS in 1963 we would have one period of Speech Training every week with a Mr. Roberts does any body else remember him?
One of his phrases he would use would be "Eve guard for blue pearls" what it meant I don't know but I can certainly remember having t0o stand up in class a talk for 5 mins on a chosen subject my was "Coal"
